Valley Christian High School Varsity Baseball Team Takes 2nd place at Ft. Bragg Tournament
2nd Place at Fort Bragg Tourney

This year was a marked year for all of the Women's Volleyball Teams.
Varsity led the way, making it into the NCS playoffs and winning in the
quarter-finals against Bay of SF. See the article written by the Dublin
Patch newspaper:
http://dublin.patch.com/articles/girls-volleyball-valley-christian-toughs-out-playoff-win.
During the Semi-final match against University High School, they fell to a
team that made it into the State Championships. Varsity had a great year
with endless memories to think of when they need them. Rebecca Silva was
awarded League 1st Team as a Setter. What that means is that all Coaches in
our League thought she should represent the League as their starting Setter.
Ashley Baldi was awarded 2nd Team as a Middle Blocker and Hitter. Ashley
was up against girls that were 6-2 and 6-1 but the League Coaches admired
her professionalism and tenacious fire, roofing those same girls. Maclane
Hoenig was awarded an Honorable Mention as an Outside Hitter for her Spirit
and continuous positive attitude.
JV finished their league in 1st place losing only 1 match the entire season. Although there is not a Championship tournament for this group, there was
still outstanding play seen by the likes of Megan Mathews and Tia Woodson
hitting Outside, Rebekah Rogers already Setting a 5-1 system, Alex Aqua and
Oseme Ibhawo equally causing trouble at the Middle, Kylie Greer our leading
Ace Server, and Izzy Ayad and Berkeley Skillcorn as our big Opposites. This
was a large squad as well and next year will be exciting to see some of
these girls play up to Varsity.
JH girls A had a positive season and had to face many adversities when they
lost their Setter, Alyssa Guthrie, due to injury in the beginning of the
Season. They quickly adapted to keep the drive alive and learned a lot
about playing in tough situations. Alyssa Arace was the League's best
hitter by far. There were no hitters in the League that could hit with time
and pace as she did. Kate Sorel followed with her own heat at OH. Adrianna
Armendariz and Ellen Kiser played MB while Mindy Macalino lived and breathed
OP. Lastly, Whitney Carter owned the back court playing Libero.

JH girls B capped the season with a League Championship title! Rookie Head
Coaches Rebecca Silva and Ashley Baldi took their love of the game to the
next level by leading these young girls from a great come-from-behind
series. The semifinals was 1st vs. 4th and they took out the #1 seed 2-1 in
sets to lead them into the Championship match. Tough serving and great
on-court presence helped them win the Championship with nice margin. The
entire Team played with unity and so kudos to all: Mariam Anthony, Ashley
Barker, Olivia Cano, Tawny Halter, Stephanie Kerry, Samantha Lai, Anna
Michel, Christina Nakao, Alexandria Parra, Brianna Prestia, Rachel Rogers,
Sarah Sanchez, and Samantha Soong.

TECHNIQUE AND GET-IT-DONE ATTITUDE GETS RESULTS AT MENDENHALL TOURNAMENT
In their final competition of the season, our Junior High Wrestlers showed that they are here to wrestle...and wrestle hard. Of the ten wrestlers on the team, four made it to the finals and took home medals!
At the Mendenhall Middle School Tournament in Pleasanton (March 27), Josh Shapland, Christian Meekins, and Eric Fisher all took second place. Matthew Bell won three of his four matches to grab third place. Even more impressive is that nine of the boys are first-year wrestlers and one is in his second year.
Congratulations to the Team: Reagan Rogers, Wiliam Kizanis, Ben Carter, Christian Meekins,Craig Mariani, Eric Fisher, Matthew Bell, Alex Parrella, Cody Adams, Josh Shapland. Well done.

Congratulations Golf Team!
I am so proud of the team. We traveled to Boundary Oaks Golf Course in Walnut Creek for our match against Berean Christian yesterday. The weather was sunny and cool and the course was in great shape with fast greens, lush green fairways and mature trees. We traveled with nine of our ten players, Josh McCloskey was out of town. All of our players played very well but more importantly they conducted themselves with dignity and honor even as they handled the adversity and pressure that the game offers.
Please congratulate the team for the first Valley Christian Golf Team victory in three seasons. The team won by 30 strokes which is a significant margin.
Leading the team were Preston Jung who was co-medalist of the match with a 40, Captain Bucky Layton was just one shot behind with a 41, Seniors Travis Hoke and Captain David Lee both had solid performances and beat their counterparts from Berean, Jake Hancock had the round of the day with a 48 and moves up several spots, Senior Jacob Chism had a great first match beating his opponent and Seniors Brandon Arace and Billy Donohue had really solid rounds in their first competitive match. Freshman Matt Stanley turned in a solid round defeating his opponent by several strokes.
Brandon had an especially nice tee shot on the ninth hole as he adjusted his aim and hit one right down the middle and Billy Donohue hit many solid shots throughout the round.
I am very proud of the win but even more proud of how our team conducted themselves with grace and dignity. What was also very cool was to see so many of the team members at the special youth service at church right after the match praising and worshipping in their golf uniforms.
We have a really special team and it is such a pleasure to see them enjoying the game, enjoying each other and enjoying God’s beauty. We are having a lot of fun and each player is improving. It’s really neat to see the more experienced golfers giving tips and support to the players that are newer to the game.
I hope that Golf will be a medium for each student to grow closer to the Lord, grow closer to each other and grow closer to their parents. I hope it will be a blessing to them for their entire lives. Thank you for participating and parents thank you for encouraging and supporting them in golf.
CONGRATULATIONS TEAM.

Junior High Wrestler of to a Very Strong Start

The 2011 junior-high wrestling season is well underway with ten 6th, 7th, and 8th graders (with all but one in their first year of wrestling). In their opening scrimmage last week, they showed all the technique and attitude of a more seasoned team.
On Saturday March 12th, they competed in their first tournament, the Bulldog Middle School Wrestling Tournament in Livermore. Our junior high boys wrestled hard - Viking Style - against a very experienced group of competitors. Matthew Bell won second place and Ben Carter took third.
Please see the schedule and come support these hard-working athletes as they wrestle through the month of March.

Young Vikings Wrestlers Top Off a Strong Season
Valley Christian High School Wrestlers finished off a very strong season. Competing at a junior varsity tournament as a guest of the East Bay Athletic League, the team lived up to their three goals: Be precise in techniques, be aggressive in action, and be ambassadors for Christ. Top Viking finish of the day went to Clayton Carter, who pinned two opponents on his way to taking second place.
This young team, made up of freshman and sophomores, improved greatly over the course of the season and is well positioned to develop into first Varsity wrestling team in Valley Christian's history.
