JV BOYS GAME RECAPS

Dakota Yates hit a three pointer to get the JV Boys off to a good start in their game against College Prep. And after ending the first quarter tied things were looking up for the visiting Vikings. But, College Prep wasn’t having it and went on to outscore the Vikings 12-3 in the second quarter and never looked back as they beat the Vikings by the score of  36-24.Greg Baker led the Vikings in scoring with 8, followed by Will Andres and Dakota Yates with six apiece.

The Vikings traveled to Oakland to take on Goliath – Head Royce – unfortunately they forgot their sling shots and were squashed by the score of 66-18. The boys were cold from the field and the charity stripe going 2-10 in the first half.  In the second half, Zach Paulson heated up hitting two quick threes and finished up leading the Vikings in scoring with 11 while newcomer Greg Landon tallied his first bucket of the year. The Vikings will head back to Oakland on Monday to close out their season against St. Elizabeth.

JV BOYS GAME RECAPS

2-2-10

In their final home game of the season the JV Boys gave their home crowd good reason to cheer by beating Athenian by the score of 51-41.  Zach Paulson spearheaded the offense by scoring a game high 13 points while also leading an aggressive front court defense alongside Dakota Yates and Howard Wikle. Yates added 9 points of his own and Will Andres tossed in another 7 for the Vikings. Greg Baker was the work horse on defense for the Vikings as he clogged the paint and corralled ten rebounds. The Vikings will hit the road for the rest of the season starting Friday as they travel to Lafayette to tangle with Bentley.

It was heart break hotel for the JV squad as they lost in overtime to Bentley by the score of 48-47. The game had many lead changes as both teams took turns taking the momentum from each other. It was easily the best effort the Vikings had this season and Will Andres best game of the year as he scored 12 points, played tough defense and continued his clutch shot blocking.  Dakota Yates, Greg Baker, and Zach Paulson continued to shine offensively as they all tallied 10 points. Kevin Do, although he was kept off the score board his tough aggressive defense had a huge impact in the game.

JV BOYS GAME RECAPS

1-26-10

The JV boys hosted Head Royce, but they were to gracious of a host as they allowed Head Royce to run through, over, and around them in losing by the score of 65-23. Turnovers, bad defense, and poor foul shooting continued to plague the JV Boys. The only bright spot for the Vikings was Greg Baker’s offensive performance as he was able to weave around the bigger Head Royce boys for 9 points.

1-28-10

After a dreadful performance against Head Royce the JV boys bounced back and had a thriller against Redwood. Unfortunately, they ended up on the short end of the stick 39-36, but it took an overtime period before Redwood prevailed. The Vikings got balanced scoring as Howard Wikle had a game high 9 points, followed by Will Andres and Greg Baker who both chipped in 7 a piece.

The JV boys again tasted defeat losing to St. Elizabeth by the score of 43-34. But the game was closer than the score indicates. Led by the scrappy defense of Howard Wikle, Zack Paulson, Dakota Yates, the Vikings went into half time trailing just 22-19. But, the hustling defense had its draw backs as the Vikings faded in the second half. Wikle had a strong offensive game leading the Vikings in scoring with 10 while Greg Baker and Paulson added 8 and 7 points respectively.

JV BOYS SUMMARY

1/5/10
Valley Christian JV Boys opened the New Year with a 43-40 lost to the Redwood Eagles. Led offensively in the first half by Dakota Yates, James Bessolo and AJ Harris the Vikings held a 21-15 halftime lead. That lead evaporated fast as Redwood soared past the Vikings scoring 24 points of their own in the third quarter. But, in the fourth quarter, utilizing a full court press and Greg Baker’s 10 points the Vikings came roaring back and after a Justin Usher three from the far reaches of the atmosphere the lead was cut to three with seven seconds to go. On the ensuing inbound chaos commenced as bodies was flying everywhere as both teams scratched and clawed for possession of the elusive round sphere that eventually was rewarded to the visiting Vikings. With two ticks left on the clock Usher hit Yates flying down the left sideline with a chance to tie the game but the ball hit the rim and bounced out dashing the hopes of a Viking comeback.

1/7/10
In Fremont, the (1-6) Vikings endured another road lost from Fremont Christian by the score of 40 -28. But, the biggest lost was Max Kurth, whose leadership and experience was truly missed. Max stepped down to rehab and rest his battled weary knees. Even with the lost of Kurth the Vikings got out to another good start as Greg Baker got six of his game high eight points in the first half and the Vikings took a 16-12 lead into the locker room. But, poor foul shooting and turnovers continued to plague the road weary Vikings. Offensively, Will Andres was a pleasant surprise as he netted five points.

1/8/10
Down to seven active players the (1-7) JV Viking Boys trekked over to Diablo to play Athenian and gave them all they could handle before succumbing 41-31. With seconds left on the clock before half Ben Slack hit a three just past half court to send the Vikings into the locker room tied 25-25. Things looked bright, but in the third quarter Athenian quickly turned out the lights as they stormed to an eight point lead that they never relinquished. Greg Baker led the Vikings with 12 points followed by Ben Slacks’ 7 and Will Andres pitched in 5.

1/12/10

The (2-8) JV Viking Boys got a taste of home cooking for the first time this season and it was much to their liking as they picked up their first league win beating Bentley 38-28. Leading 14-7 at halftime the Vikings changed their pattern of second half let downs and continued to apply the pressure on Bentley. Greg Baker continued offensively to lead the Vikings as he tallied 8 points. Will (The Thrill) Andres, newcomers Zack Paulson and Howard Wikle tossed in 6 points apiece.

1/15/10

Coming off their first league victory the (2-9) Vikings could not sustained their momentum and fell hard to College Prep 43-29.  Every time the Vikings mounted a charge College Prep answered. In the lost, there were a lot of signs of good things to come as Dakota Yates knocked down a couple of three’s, James Bessolo stepped up defensively and offensively, Will Andres had two crowd pleasing blocks, AJ Harris becoming a defensive stopper, and Greg Baker continued his consist play and good foul shooting.

JV BOYS SUMMARY

The Jr. Varsity Boys opened their season on the road in the Livermore, "Cowboy Round Up" tournament. But, things did not work out in their favor as they lost three straight losing to Mission San Jose 68-23, 61-30 to Granada and Washington High. They did receive excellent play from Julian Kelly, Dakota Yates, and Greg Baker who led the team in scoring while Meina Ragheb, Will Andres, and James Bessolo provided the defense and heart. But, it was newcomer Max Ness straight from the football turf to the hardwood who stole the show against Washington as he electrified the crowd with his three point rainbows.

The following week a trip across the Bay were more to the Jr. Varsity Boys liking as they tasted victory for the first time to improve their record to 1-3 as they beat a quick and feisty Drew Academy team 40-32. Greg Baker led all scorers with ten points, followed closely by Dakota Yates 9, and Julian Kelly's 8. But, it was Max Kurth who set the table for his teammates with his all out defensive hustle and suave play making skills on offense.

This week, riding high after picking up their first victory of the young season the Jr. Varsity Vikings trekked down to the South Bay to tangle with Kings Academy Their bubble was busted quickly as they ended up with gum on their face as Kings Academy jumped on them early to take a 30-10 lead into the locker room and never looked back beating the Vikings by the score of 49-19. Meina Ragheb and Max Kurth scored 5 and 4 points respectively for the Vikings.

Two days later, the Vikings (1-4) made a complete circle as they were back in Livermore to try to lasso the Livermore Cowboys. The Cowboys wasted no time as they rode out of the locker room and took a commanding 26-6 first quarter lead. A stampede of baskets followed as the Vikings took it on the chin  69-36. But, there were plenty of bright spots on the evening as Max Ness and James Bessolo thrilled the crowd with their long range accuracy, Max Kurth drove the lane avoiding traffic as well as Danica Patrick - netting 8 point in the process, Meina Ragheb continued to play with all out hustle and never say die attitude, and even Justin Usher, rolled off the wrestling mat and got into the scoring column with a short turn around jumper that had the crowd roaring with approval.

JV Boys Basketball Tryouts– Tryouts are Nov. 9th 7-9PM and Nov. 10th 5-7PM.   Coach Garrett Fitch, Practice times M 7-9PM, T 6-7:30AM, Wed. 3:30-5PM, TH 5-7PM, F 5-7PM.  Sport Fee is $250.00


*BCL-E Tournament Finals are Saturday, February 20th.
