2.11.10 Valley Christian 22 Head Royce 49
Valley lost to conference leading Head Royce. Overall, it was a much better game than when we played them earlier in the season – so progress is good! Brittany Smith once again lead us in scoring with 18.
2.16.10 Valley Christian 30 St. Elizabeth 34
We tried our best to send our Seniors (Brittany Smith, Sarah Souza and Erika Bellitt) out in style but early foul trouble and cold shooting hinder our attempt. In a very emotional night we just couldn’t seem to find the basket but the work ethic and the “stick-to-it-iveness” of our team never failed.
We ended the season with a 7-18 record....much better than in the past, yet we let some games slip away that we thought we should have won. Overall, I’m so very proud of the girls and how we played this season. Never before have I seen a team try so hard each and every game (ok, minus one! Smile!). Their attitude day in and day out was outstanding and even though we were inexperienced, they stepped up to the plate every game against teams with much more experience and never complained. I love my girls and will miss them. :-)
2.17.10
Brittany Smith was named 2nd team ALL-BCL-East for the second year in a row. Brittany finishes her career with 1, 232 points and is only the second player in VCS history to reach 1000 points. Congrats to Brit on a GREAT CAREER!!!

2.5.10 VCS 41 Bentley 62
The score was tied at the end of the 1st quarter but the Lady Vikings just couldn’t pull off an upset of the #2 team in the league. We more than doubled our point output from the last time we played them and Sara Souza even drew two offensive charges!! Overall, it was a great winterball night for the team. Brittany Smith once again lead us in scoring with 23 while Olivia Cunha chipped in 8 and Sara Souza had 4 and grabbed 12 boards.

Junior Kailey Hanks lead the team in rebounding with 5.

1.26.10
The Lady Vikings lost to a very tough Head Royce team on Tuesday 58-31. Turnovers and a lack of defensive rebounding sunk the team. Brittany Smith once again lead the way with 23 points.
1.28.10
The Lady Vikings were hoping to come away with a win again Redwood Christian but turnovers once again got the best us as we lost 48-32. Scoring was well rounded as Brittany Smith lead with 15, Olivia Cunha had a career high 12 points and Sarah Souza chipped in 5. Kailey Hanks lead in the rebounding category with 7 with Olivia and Brittany pulled down 6.
1.29.10
Over 50 free-throws were shot in this crazy and rough game against St. Elizabeth. In the end, thanks to the free-throw shooting of Brittany Smith (16-22) the Lady Vikings pulled out a victory 39-32. It was a senior dominated night as Brittany ended the game with 26 points and Sarah Souza chipped in 7. Sarah was excellent on the offensive boards pulling down 5 with a total of 8 while Brittany pulled in 9.
1.30.10
After the extremely rough game the night before and the 4th game in a week, the Lady Vikings hobbled into the gym for Saturday’s game against SF Waldorf. Sarah Souza was unable to play due to a sprained ankle and Olivia Cunha and Brittany Smith were barely moving but the Vikings dug deep and were still able to make a game of it. Unfortunately a few missed defensive boards at the end sealed the defeat for Valley, 31-19. Smith lead the team with 7 points and Rebecca Pilz 6.

Valley Christian 41 College Prep 35
The Lady Vikings won their first conference/league game in 3 years by defeating College Prep on Friday! Cold shooting and too many turnovers had the team trailing by 7 at the half. The second half was a mixture of great defense and taking care of the ball. Eventually the Vikings pulled in front and Brittany Smith nailed pressure free-throws down the stretch to seal the victory. Smith lead all scores with 24 and had 6 steals, Olivia Cunha threw in 9 and grabbed 8 rebounds. Giselle Aikenhead lead all rebounders with 9.

1.8.10
The Lady Vikings fought hard but in the end were outmanned by a very talented Athenian 57-22. The injury plagued Vikings were lead by Brittany Smith with 16 points.
1.12.10
The Lady Vikings played a great first half but ice cold shooting in the second was the demise of the team. Leading in scoring once again was Brittany Smith with 8 followed by Mari Eguchi with 4. Sara Souza had a great night on the boards with 11 rebounds while Olivia Cunha pulled down 7. As always, the team played hard and the improvement over last year was clearly evident.

Valley 42 Chinese Christian 35

Yea! Such improvement and I’m so proud of the Ladies!! Brittany Smith again lead the team with 24 point and 18 rebounds while Sara Souza threw in 6, Mari Eguchi 5, Olivia Cunha 4 and R. Pilz 3.

Valley 32 Redwood 52
A hot shooting night from Brittany Smith was not enough to lift the Vikings over Redwood Christian. In the first conference match up of the year, Valley lost 52-32. The game was close in the first half with Redwood holding a 28-22 lead going into the locker room but week scoring in the 2nd half hurt the team. Smith lead the team in scoring with 26, including going 10-10 from the freethrow line. Olivia Cunha and Sara Souza each contributed 3.

Tuesday we fell to Fremont Christian 23-47 and Wednesday we lost to St. Bernard’s 21-43. Both nights the team played well but had trouble putting the ball in the basket. Congrats go out to Brittney Smith was elected to the all-tournament team. We are asking for special prayers go out for Erika Bellitt (knee ) and Olivia Cunha (quad ) who were both injured in Wednesday night’s game.

Valley came back from Christmas break with a great win over Cornerstone Christian 40-17 in the first round of the West Coast Jamboree. Erika Bellitt and Brittany Smith lead the way with 14 and 13 points respectively while Sara Souza chipped in 6, Olivia Cunha 5 and Rebecca Pilz 2. Erika, Sara, Giselle Aikenhead and Kailey Hanks did a great job on the offensive boards and the defense was all around great. Next up is Fremont Christian (12/29) - a team we were beaten by a few weeks ago – the girls are looking for some revenge – should be a great game!

In our final game before Christmas we traveled to play a very good Ripon Christian team. We lost the game but the ladies played hard and adjusted well to coaching changes that they had never even gone over in practice! I was proud and impressed with their ability to change with out much practice.

The Lady Vikings traveled to SF Friday night and played an exciting contest against Urban School/SF. We lead at half-time but a slow 3rd quarter gave Urban the lead. The game was back and forth through-out the second half but Urban eventually pulled it out by making freethrows when we were forced to foul. Final score was 41-31. Brittany Smith lead all scorers with 17 while Olivia Cunha chipped in 8, Erika Bellit 4 and Sara Souza 2.

A fourth quarter comeback was not enough as Valley fell to Fremont Christian 33-44. We struggled the first 3 quarters to really put anything together but the Ladies dug deep and took out a sizable chunk of Fremont’s lead – we are looking forward to potentially playing them again in the West Coach Jamboree tourney.

4 Valley placed 3rd overall in the St. Elizabeth Holiday Tournament with a win over KIPP King. Brittany Smith was selected to the all tournament team.

Valley lost a tough one tonight against a very good Salesian team 57-29. The team started off slow and shaky but soon started making progress and adapted quite well to what Salesian was throwing at them. In the end poor free-throw shooting and costly turn-overs prohibited us from closing the scoring gap. The team played extremely hard, never gave up and acted with class and “Christ-likeness” even when things were tough – I couldn’t be prouder. We were led in scoring by Brittany Smith who tossed in 20.
Next game is tomorrow (12/4) at 4:30.
