As we read scripture, we commonly find words that have been incorporated into athletic training as motivational tools, helping people excel beyond their personal limits and achieve desired results. Posted on the walls of weight rooms, gymnasiums and athletic fields are words from scripture such as strive, commit, trust, self-control, foundation, discipline, endurance and preparation. We also see these words used in phrases: fight the good fight, press on, finish the race, be strong and courageous, stand firm, I can do all things, run with purpose, forget what was behind and press forward.
The use of these words in athletics reveals a fundamental truth:
Our motivation to succeed athletically is born of our internal desire to serve and please our God.
As athletes at Valley Christian, we strive to honor our coaches, teachers, administrators, teammates and parents through the thoughtfulness and preparation demonstrated in our classrooms before we step on the fields and courts of competition. Our faith, character and creativity go beyond the athletic arenas and reach into the community as we seek to set an example of courage, dedication, maturity and integrity. We understand that while perfection is something to be desired, we realize that there is only ONE that is perfect.
So, we will put on the full armor of God, we will finish the race, we will strain toward what is ahead and ultimately we will win the prize for which God has called us heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Together. Unity. One.
